12 Day Botswana & Cape Town Combination Safari
|

This tour was specifically designed to create an informative, all-round African wildlife experience for people with visual impairments. By using descriptive explanations to paint visual images, we will 'show' you the magic of Africa. This tour combines 2 of the most renowned holiday destinations in Southern Africa – namely Botswana and South Africa. We incorporate a 6-night stay in Botswana’s Moremi Wildlife Reserve, situated within one of the richest, most diverse natural wildlife areas – namely the Okavango Delta – and Botswana’s prime game-viewing location. Here you will enjoy a true African bush experience, whilst camping in pristine private campsites, surrounded by the magic of the African bush. Safely tucked in at night, you will fall asleep to the distant roar of lions and other night sounds synonymous with African nightlife. During this tour, you will experience the sounds and smells of Africa that lend itself to an unforgettable safari experience. After spending 6 nights in the wilds of Africa, experiencing remote wilderness areas, you will be whisked away to South Africa's popular "Mother City" - Cape Town - for a further 4 nights’ stay in a comfortable hotel, including all local touring highlights – no visit to Cape Town would be complete without a cable car ride to the top of Cape Town’s most famous landmark – Table Mountain. Come and explore the rhythm of the Cape with us.

Detailed Itinerary
We have tailor made this experience around all of our other senses, hearing, touching, smelling and tasting. Using these senses, we have developed an experience that is superior to your average traveller, who largely only uses vision as a means of interpreting data. One of the special ways in which we guide these safaris is by explaining in detail what is seen by the guide, thereby painting a visual picture for those who cannot physically see. To give you an example: The guide suddenly stops the vehicle and his explanation is something like this - "I am quite sure I have just seen a leopard, give me a second while I back-up the vehicle to be sure. Ok, definitely, a leopard, she is in beautiful condition, from her size I would say she is a female, but I will confirm this in a few minutes. She is headed straight toward us. She has just stopped, and is half crouching, she is concentrating on something about one hundred metres ahead, Impala, she has seen this herd of Impala, they are completely unaware of the leopard, the light wind is in the leopards favour, as it is blowing in the general direction from the impala toward the leopard. There is a lot of about knee height greenish yellow grass between the leopard and the impala. There is also three medium sized bushes, 1.5m-2.5m, about 20 metres off to the right of the leopard. It seems the impala are changing direction, making their way over to a small open pan area about fifty metres further from us. Mmm the leopard is sitting up now, and losing interest, she is starting to look around again. She just stood up, and is continuing towards us, she is completely unperturbed by our presence, and is now crossing the road in front of our vehicle. She is only three metres from us, don’t make any sudden movements or we may frighten her. She is probably heading down to the river for a drink of water." Accompanied with these guides interpretations, will of course be animal sounds, alarm calls etc, which will be explained as they are heard, as soon as the leopard is far out of sight and there is no more danger, those that wish can exit the vehicle, and safely touch the very fresh track or spoor of the leopard, feeling the individual detail, of the paw print, even the scent of the animal can be smelt if it is so fresh. This is a very intimate self explanatory exercise, and creates understanding of the animals you have come here to learn and experience. Day 1: Okavango Delta - Moremi Game Reserve Air Botswana will carry you safely either from Cape Town or Johannesburg International Airport, which departs at 10:00 am every day, and arrives at Maun Airport, on the fringe of the Okavango Delta, at 11:40 am. Upon arrival you will be met by your safari guide and welcomed into Botswana. We will have short final opportunity to purchase any final things, before departing Maun for our destination - Moremi Game Reserve - situated in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta. The drive to the entrance to the reserve is 100 kilometres, and takes about two and a half hours. We usually have a light lunch here, as well as explaining with maps and drawings in the sand, our position and the general travel for the remainder of the day, as well as what we can expect to experience along the way. This game reserve is ideally situated for a wildlife sanctuary. It has no fences, hence allowing unobstructed seasonal movement of game which makes this a largely natural area. This is a paradise for birds, game and predators alike. Completely varied vegetation makes this area very special, and we will regularly stop and exit the vehicle to touch the various vegetation, allowing you to understand physically the major types of vegetation to be found in the area. This can prove very useful and informative, especially when the guide is explaining – example the lions are having a siesta under a sage bush! Within an hours’ travelling it is possible to view the first of the wildlife inhabiting this area. We will stop en-route for a simple lunch of sandwiches and fruit, before continuing towards our camp. Late afternoon arrival at our camp, with enough time to settle in before having our evening meal. Afterwards we will relax around the campfire, where your guide will explain the safety precautions and will answer your various questions in order to calm your understandable apprehension for the coming days. Overnight in large en-suite tent - L/D. Day 2: Okavango Delta - Moremi Game Reserve Our first morning in the Wilds - it will be an early rise, with coffee and some biscuits around the fire at first light. Early morning departure from our camp in search of various predators (such as lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyaena) antelope (such as impala, lechwe, reedbuck, tsessebe) and other game such as giraffe, zebra, etc and of course also the birds that inhabit this area. Hippopotamus are abundant, in the streams and lagoons that make up vast areas of the Delta. We return to camp around 10:30 for Brunch. The early part of the afternoon is spent relaxing and reading, in and around the camp. This is also the ideal time for showering, usually taken after a short siesta. Once it becomes cooler towards the late afternoon we once again depart on a game-drive, returning to camp after sunset for our second night in the wilds. Overnight in large en-suite tent - B/L/D. Day 3: Okavango Delta - Moremi Game Reserve A repeat of the previous days’ activities, allowing a full day to observe and understand the surrounding wilds. Overnight in large en-suite tent - B/L/D. Days 4 & 5: Okavango Delta - Savuti Area Today we move our camp to the famous Chobe National Park, we will be staying in the southern region of this 10 698 square kilometres park. Savuti, named after the now dry channel, is the region where we will be spending our next two days. This area is famous for it’s Bull Elephants, large prides of lions and nightly visits of the areas resident hyaenas. This area is very different to the initial three nights of the tour, which are spent on the fringes of a delta. The Savuti area, is more typical of large areas of Botswana as a whole, much like the Kalahari, with deep sands, hardier vegetation and greater temperature variations. Overnight in large en-suite tent - B/L/D. Day 6: Cape Town *** On this day after breakfast you will be transferred to the landing strip in Savuti, where we will be met by your pilot, who will be transferring you to Maun, well in time for your connecting flight with Air Botswana departing for your destination Cape Town. Upon arrival in South Africa’s popular "Mother City", you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in and time to freshen up after your flight. Transfer to the Waterfront - Cape Town’s premier shopping and entertainment complex for dinner at one of the many local restaurants. Overnight in Hotel / Guest House – B/L/D. *** Due to the time schedule of Air Botswana, Endeavour Safaris holds the right to change the itinerary as follow: Day 6: Overnight in Maun in chalets at Island Safari Lodge – B/L/D. Day 7: After breakfast your safari guide will transfer you to Maun Airport to connect your flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival at Cape Town, you will once again be met by your Safari Guide, who will be entertaining you for the following couple of days and nights. Day 7: Hermanus On this day after a leisure morning, you will be transferred to the Waterfront – Cape Town’s premier shopping and entertainment complex for dinner at one of the many local restaurants. Day 8: Hermanus This morning, departing Cape Town, we make our way towards Hermanus, stopping en-route at the HAROLD PORTER - this tranquil garden is set between mountain and sea in the heart of the fynbos region where the flora is at its richest. Pollination, seed dispersal and germination - there is always a story to be told. In the shadow of the cliffs of the Kogelberg Mountain Range, we will enjoy a light picnic lunch, consisting of several local South African delicacies. After lunch we explore a farm where indigenous vegetation is grown commercially. Here species of the region are grown, picked and treated. As one of the leading dry flower suppliers in South Africa, their indigenous dried decorative plant material and botanicals are exported around the globe. Visit the packaging, bleaching, preserving and dyeing operations, solar-powered drying tunnels and also the cultivation area. We will enjoy a sumptuous seafood dinner in Hermanus and overnight at one of the local guest houses B/L/D. Day 9: Grape Experience - Wineland Today we will be fortunate enough to take part in a unique 'grape-crushing and wine-making experience'. During the harvest season, guests to this beautiful wine farm will be able to foot trample grapes and make their own wine in the 'lagar'. It is said to be unique because of the combination of tramping and pressing with the use of the pole basket press. This provides a wonderful sensory experience, especially as the grapes are being pressed between your toes! Add to this a customized Portuguese lunch (make up your own menu, including peri-peri chicken, espetada, prawns, peri-peri chicken livers, chourico, etc). Guaranteed to be a great and unforgettable day. After lunch, we will travel back to Cape Town over Sir Lowry’s Pass. Tonight we will enjoy a traditional Cape Malay dinner in Cape Town’s popular 'Malay Quarter'. Overnight in Hotel / Guest House – B/L/D. Day 10: West Coast We will make our way along the West Coast. Our first daily destination is the famous West Coast National Park. Just inland from the secluded harbour of Saldanha Bay one finds the azure waters of the Langebaan Lagoon, focal point of the West Coast National Park. Thousands of seabirds roost on sheltered islands, pristine golden beaches stretch endlessly into the early morning mist and brooding salt marshes are home to vast concentrations of migrant waders from the northern hemisphere. During the spring the strandveld is embroidered with a tapestry of multi-hued flowers, while in the Postberg section many antelope are to be seen in a setting that is as unique as it is idyllic (open September). Our next visit will be at !Kwha ttu: The San Cultural and Education centre, where we are going to have a very traditional dinner before heading back to Cape Town. Overnight in Hotel / Guest House – B/L/D. Day 11: Table Mountain and Robben Island Today will include a visit to Cape Town’s most famous landmark - Table Mountain (weather dependant). Enjoy an exhilarating trip in a rotating cable car that will take you to the top of Table Mountain where you will be guided through the natural wonders of the flat quartzite top. During the afternoon there will be time to visit Robben Island, world-renowned for the exiled prisoners who inhabited the island many years ago. The most famous of whom, being our very own ex-President Nelson Mandela. On the island, we will be taken on a tour of the jail cells that were once home to thousands of political prisoners, where ex-inmates will openly re-tell their tales to you. Once we return to the Waterfront, we will board a boat to enjoy a sundowner cruise (weather permitting), followed by a delicious traditional South African 'barbeque' on board. Overnight in Hotel / Guest House – B/L/D. Day 12:
This morning, depending on your outbound flight details, you may have some time for last minute shopping, before your airport transfer in time to connect with your outbound flight.
