6 Day Cape Town Environmental Tour

This tour was specially designed utilizing the basic senses of smell, touch, taste and hearing. Concentrating on using these 4 senses, allow us to show you some of Cape Town’s hidden environmental treasures.

This eco-friendly tour is completely ‘hands-on’, where clients partake in all the excursions on offer, whilst our guides paint visual pictures for you in order to complete the all-round sensory experiences. Some of the local sensory highlights that await you include a visit to a local wine-estate where you will gain first-hand experience at the age-old process of wine-making. Here you will personally experience the feeling of grapes being crushed and pressed between your toes – these grapes will later be used to make your very own bottle of wine. Guests also learn about the famous Cape Fynbos and unique Cape Floral Kingdom – some of which are utilized in various different industries.

Allow yourself to be entertained by traditional Marimba music and African drumming, whilst sampling traditional fare at the 'Mama Africa' restaurant. This tour is both informative and entertaining and you will leave South Africa having gained valuable insight into our local environment.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cape Town Upon arrival in South Africa’s popular "Mother City", you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in and time to freshen up after your flight. Transfer to the Waterfront - Cape Town’s premier shopping and entertainment complex for dinner at one of the many local restaurants. Overnight in 3 star Hotel / Guest House in Cape Town L/D.

Day 2: Hermanus

This morning, departing Cape Town, we make our way towards Hermanus, stopping en-route at the HAROLD PORTER - this tranquil garden is set between mountain and sea in the heart of the fynbos region where the flora is at its richest. Pollination, seed dispersal and germination - there is always a story to be told. In the shadow of the cliffs of the Kogelberg Mountain Range, we will enjoy a light picnic lunch, consisting of several local South African delicacies.

After lunch we explore a farm where indigenous vegetation is grown commercially. Here species of the region are grown, picked and treated. As one of the leading dry flower suppliers in South Africa, their indigenous dried decorative plant material and botanicals are exported around the globe. Visit the packaging, bleaching, preserving and dyeing operations, solar-powered drying tunnels and also the cultivation area. We will enjoy a sumptuous seafood dinner in Hermanus and Overnight in 3 star Hotel / Guest House in Cape Town B/L/D.

Day 3: Grape Experience - Wineland

Today we will be fortunate enough to take part in a unique 'grape-crushing and wine-making experience'. During the harvest season, guests to this beautiful wine farm will be able to foot trample grapes and make their own wine in the 'lagar'. It is said to be unique because of the combination of tramping and pressing with the use of the pole basket press. This provides a wonderful sensory experience, especially as the grapes are being pressed between your toes!

Add to this a customized Portuguese lunch (make up your own menu, including peri-peri chicken, espetada, prawns, peri-peri chicken livers, chourico, etc). Guaranteed to be a great and unforgettable day. After lunch, we will travel back to Cape Town over Sir Lowry’s Pass. Tonight we will enjoy a traditional Cape Malay dinner in Cape Town’s popular 'Malay Quarter'. Overnight in 3 star Hotel / Guest House – B/L/D.

Day 4: West Coast

We will make our way along the West Coast.

Our first daily destination is the famous West Coast National Park. Just inland from the secluded harbour of Saldanha Bay one finds the azure waters of the Langebaan Lagoon, focal point of the West Coast National Park. Thousands of seabirds roost on sheltered islands, pristine golden beaches stretch endlessly into the early morning mist and brooding salt marshes are home to vast concentrations of migrant waders from the northern hemisphere. During the spring the strandveld is embroidered with a tapestry of multi-hued flowers, while in the Postberg section many antelope are to be seen in a setting that is as unique as it is idyllic (open September).

Our next visit will be at !Kwha ttu: The San Cultural and Education centre, where we are going to have a very traditional dinner before heading back to Cape Town. Overnight in 3 star Hotel / Guest House – B/L/D.

Day 5: Table Mountain and Robben Island

Today will include a visit to Cape Town’s most famous landmark - Table Mountain (weather dependant). Enjoy an exhilarating trip in a rotating cable car that will take you to the top of Table Mountain where you will be guided through the natural wonders of the flat quartzite top.

During the afternoon there will be time to visit Robben Island, world-renowned for the exiled prisoners who inhabited the island many years ago. The most famous of whom, being our very own ex-President Nelson Mandela. On the island, we will be taken on a tour of the jail cells that were once home to thousands of political prisoners, where ex-inmates will openly re-tell their tales to you.

Once we return to the Waterfront, we will board a boat to enjoy a sundowner cruise (weather permitting), followed by a delicious traditional South African 'barbeque' on board. Overnight in 3 star Hotel / Guest House – B/L/D.

Day 6:

After breakfast, morning at leisure until our airport transfer in time to connect with your outbound flight.
