Frequently Asked Questions - Kidney
Dialysis Tours
Can I travel to South Africa, considering I need
Haemodialysis every second to third day?
Yes, most definitely. There are a vast number of kidney
and dialysis centres situated throughout South Africa. The
location of these centres is taken into consideration when
compiling our itineraries, to ensure that our clients can
easily receive dialysis treatment every 1-3 days for the
duration of their safari.
Can
I travel on my own?
Yes, we do not discriminate against single travelers, provided
you are medically fit to travel alone.
May
friends and family travel with me on my tour?
Most definitely, we encourage friends and family, to join
with on our tours, in fact where children are involved or
where group sizes increase we try to privatize the tour.
May
I organise a private tour?
Yes. We are happy to custom-design a private tour for small
groups, provided there is a minimum number of 4 clients.
Can
we tailor-make this tour around my specific dates and amount
of days?
Depending on the availability of our vehicles and guides,
we will do our best to try and accommodate your specific
request – also taking into account any special interests
that your group might have, for example, birding/ fishing/
cultural experience, etc.
Do
I pay more for this tour, due to my disability?
Your actual tour cost is the same as everyone else on the
tour, the only reason the cost works out more expensively
for you, is because we include all the costs involved with
your dialysis treatments. Besides the additional medical
costs involved, all other costs are exactly the same as
people who do not require dialysis.
Do
my friends and family pay more, even though they do not
need dialysis?
No, absolutely not. People not requiring dialysis treatment
simply pay the set tour price and are not charged anything
extra.
How
do I pay?
You will make one payment to Endeavour Safaris for your
tour, as well as all your medical costs. We have done this
to make the whole process streamlined and user friendly.
After the long flight to South Africa,
I will need dialysis on the day of my arrival.
All our tours start on day one with a visit to a dialysis
centre.
What
will I do about this?
All our itineraries specially include dialysis treatment
on the day of arrival in South Africa. We will also make
all the necessary bookings for any further treatments which
need to be included over the duration of your tour.
How
do I inform the dialysis centres of my special needs and
information?
We have a comprehensive questionnaire that your doctor will
need to fill out and return to us. The questionnaire contains
all relevant information that our dialysis centres require.
Is
this information treated confidentially?
Please be assured that our questionnaires, once filled in,
are kept confidential and will only be seen by the relevant
medical personnel dealing with your case.
Can
I travel to other Southern African countries?
Unfortunately, at this stage, South Africa is the only country
in the south that is equipped with suitable kidney dialysis
centres. The other countries that we currently operate in,
namely Botswana and Namibia, do not have dialysis centres.
Are
the dialysis centres modern and professional?
Yes, they provide world-class dialysis services, offering
the full range of dialysis treatments. Our centres offer
chronic dialysis in modern units equipped with state of
the art equipment and their service conforms to the highest
internationally accepted quality and safety standards.
I
have other specific questions about my dialysis that I would
like to ask a doctor about. How can I do this?
Please forward any such questions to us and we will get
the relevant information answered and returned to you.
Are
these tours physically demanding?
All our itineraries are specifically laid out to allow sufficient
time for rest and relaxation. For tours where lots of driving
is included, we ensure plenty of rest stops along the way
for stretching legs, photo opportunities, etc.
How
does the payment work for my dialysis, and how can I reclaim
this with my medical aid?
Well, firstly, to be 100% sure, check with your medical
aid and be sure they will accept our method. We have tried
to simplify this payment system, because, as you know, money
transfers are very expensive and often become a headache,
especially when you have to do payments to three or four
different dialysis centres. Endeavour will invoice you for
the full tour price, including all your medical costs. We
will pay the various hospitals, as well as do the booking
of the dialysis centres on the appropriate days. The hospital
will invoice Endeavour Safaris as well as putting your name
on the invoice. A copy of this invoice as well as a letter
from Endeavour Safaris, stating that in order to cut down
on administration, you paid us in full for medical costs
whilst here on tour, and in actual point of fact you paid
for your own medical indirectly.
What
else will I need for this tour ?
A passport, humour and enthusiasm are all compulsory.
