Day 1: JOHANNESBURG
Overnight at 3 star hotel in Johannesburg–B&B
Soweto
and Apartheid
Duration: 8 hours
Entrance included: Mandela House Museum & Hector Peterson
Memorial, Apartheid Museum
Upon
arrival at Johannesburg International Airport, you will
be met by a local tour guide and transfer to your hotel
for check in.Soweto (SOuth WEstern TOwnship), largest black
residential area in South Africa, we see a fascinating “city
within a city” essentially acts as a labour reservoir
for the greater metropolitan area of the Witwatersrand.
In many ways, the story of Soweto is the story of South
Africa.
Our
tour includes all the major points of interest, such as
Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Baragwanath taxi rank,
Freedom Square, Hector Peterson Memorial and Nelson Mandela’s
former home. We enjoy a lunch at a local restauarant in
SOWETO and then finish off our tour with a visit the Apartheid
museum.
Day 2: JOHANNESBURG

Cradle
of Mankind (Sterkfontein)
Duration: 4 hours
Entrance included: Sterkfontein Caves & The Wonder Cave
The
Sterkfontein Caves were discovered in 1896 by an Italian
gold prospector and are now regarded as one of the world’s
most important archeological sites. The caves lie in the
Sterkfontein valley which, together with the nearby sites
of Swartkrans, Drimolen and Kromdraai, make up the recently
proclaimed World Heriatge Site known as the “Cradle
of Mankind”.
Dr
Robert Broom of the Transvaal Museum (now the Museum of
Natural History) began excavations at the cave in 1936 and
in 1947 discovered a well-preserved skull of a species of
early man known as Plesianthropus Transvaalensis. This later
became known as the famous “Mrs Ples”.
Day 3: JOHANNESBURG

Lesedi
Cultural Experience
Duration: 5 hours
Entrance included: guided experience at Lesedi Cultural
Village
Lesedi is a multi-cultural African village, set amongst
the pristine Bushveld and rocky hills less than an hour’s
drive from the city of Johannesburg. The village consists
of a number of different homesteads or traditional villages:
the Xhosa, with their beautiful thatched homes and red blankets;
the Zulu with their fighting sticks and cosy beehive huts;
the Pedi, with their courtyards and rythmic drums; and the
conical straw hats and sturdy mountain ponies of the Basotho.
Guests
experience a traditional welcome upon arrival, guided cultural
walkabout through two of the four homesteads, traditional
song and dance and traditional lunch.
Day 4:
Leisure
morning.Transfer to the airport to connect your flight back
home.
