Mythical
Kalahari & Vibrant Okavango Delta Special- 11 Days (code:ESB01)
During this
safari we will stay in 2 very different parts of Botswana
– namely, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the
Okavango Delta. One will immediately see the difference
between the water wonder-world of the lush Okavango Delta
(known for its perfectly located wildlife sanctuary and
wonderful scenery) and the arid desert areas of the Kalahari
with its special desert-adapted plants and wildlife. Both
these areas are awe-inspiring, but for totally different
reasons.
We will spend most of our time camping in large safari tents
with en-suite facilities. Our days will consist mainly of
game-viewing during the early mornings and late afternoons.
During the heat of the day, we will have time for rest and
relaxation back at camp.
During this safari,
guests will also enjoy an authentic Bushmen experience,
where our camp will be setup within a private concession
which is in close proximity to a local Bushmen village.
Known as the original people of Africa, many aspects of
the Bushmen culture, such as sharing an intimate knowledge
of the bush and relating their history through dance and
story telling, are shared with guests who embark on this
tour.
Day 01: (1 Night) MAUN
Overnight in Chalet at a local Lodge - Full board basis
(If
the group requires more than 4x paraplegic room we set-up
our en-suite Mobile Camp completely accessible)
Air Botswana will carry you safely from Johannesburg International
Airport, which departs around 10:10 am every day, and arrives
at Maun Airport, on the fringe of the Okavango Delta, at
12:10pm. Upon arrival you will be met by your safari guide
and welcomed into Botswana.
Maun is a small town on the southern side of the Okavango
Delta, utilised by many Tour Companies and Safari Operators
as the starting point for various kinds of adventures. This
afternoon you have the option of taking a game-flight in
a light aircraft over the Okavango delta (duration of the
flight is approx. 1hour). In order to understand the geological
aspect of the Delta as well as to see various species of
game, this optional activity is highly recommended.
Dinner
will be at a Local Restaurant.
Day 02, 03 & 04: (3 Nights) CENTRAL KALAHARI
GAME RESERVE – DECEPTION VALLEY
Overnight in Mobile en-suite safari tents - Full board basis
After breakfast, and a short stop for any last minute necessities,
we will depart Maun heading southwards to enter the Central
Kalahari Game Reserve. The following three nights’
stay in the park will solve some of the mysteries surrounding
life in this arid region. The Kalahari and its adapted game
and vegetation have succeeded in surviving the elements
and their story is plain for those who wish to understand.
Predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena occur
here as well as water independent antelope, such as Oryx
and Springbok. The combination of Kalahari and Okavango
on one safari will clearly illustrate the importance of
water to an area. The Kalahari is one of the remotest and
most unspoilt areas of Africa, with a size of 52 800 square
kilometres.
Day 05 and 06: (2 Nights) CENTRAL KALAHARI Private
Concession – WESTERN AREA
Overnight in Chalet at a local Lodge- Full board basis
(If the group
requires more than 4x paraplegic room we set-up our en-suite
Mobile Camp completely accessible)
Today we will move our camp into a private concession situated
in the Western side of the Kalahari game Reserve.
During these next two days we will be privileged to observe
the Bushman’s current lifestyle. We will further experience
their hunting methods, be shown how they make traditional
fire and have a chance to join them on a food gathering
experience. See their amazing skills of "reading"
the signs of the veld and understand more about the reason
for their survival for so many centuries in a seemingly
hostile environment. See how even the youngest ones knows
how to distinguish between the myriad of tracks in the sand,
telling about every animal's exact behaviour!
This second evening
we will be entertained by the Bushman’s traditional
song and dance, before enjoying our dinner.
Day 07: (1 Night) MAUN
Overnight in Chalet at a local Lodge - Full board basis
(If the group
requires more than 4x paraplegic room we set-up our en-suite
Mobile Camp completely accessible)
Today we return to Maun for one night after a long journey
out of the Kalahari. Afternoon at leisure around the swimming
pool.
Day 08: (3 Nights) OKAVANGO DELTA - MOREMI AREA
Overnight in Mobile en-suite safari tents - Full board basis
We will have
short final opportunity to purchase any final things, before
departing Maun for our destination - Moremi Area - situated
in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta.
This game reserve is ideally situated for a wildlife sanctuary.
It has no fences, hence allowing unobstructed seasonal movement
of game which makes this a largely natural area. This is
a paradise for birds, game and predators alike.
Completely varied
vegetation makes this area very special.
Within an hours’
travelling it is possible to view the first of the wildlife
inhabiting this area. We will stop en-route for a simple
lunch of sandwiches and fruit, before continuing towards
our camp.
Late
afternoon arrival at our camp, with enough time to settle
in before having our evening meal. Afterwards we will relax
around the campfire, where your guide will explain the safety
precautions and will answer your various questions in order
to calm your understandable apprehension for the coming
days.
Day 09 & 10: OKAVANGO DELTA - MOREMI AREA
Overnight in Mobile en-suite safari tents - Full board basis
We will enjoy the next couple of days exploring the Moremi
Game Reserve with our days consisting of early morning and
late afternoon game drives in search of various predators
(such as lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyaena) antelope
(such as impala, lechwe, reedbuck, tsessebe) and other game
such as giraffe, zebra, etc and of course also the birds
that inhabit this area. Hippopotamus are abundant in the
streams and lagoons that make up vast areas of the Delta.
Upon return to our campsite around late morning, a delicious
brunch will be served. Thereafter you have time to relax
in/around camp. We will explore the Moremi Game Reserve
in great detail, which is sure to provide many unforgettable
game-viewing experiences.
Day 11:
After an early breakfast, we have our final game-drive en
route to Maun from where we depart for Johannesburg to connect
with your outbound International flights or continuation
of your tour.
